Older Puppy School (Part 1)

Adult Dog Training

For dogs aged 12 months and over, we recommend private, one-on-one training rather than group classes.

In our professional experience, behavioural and training challenges in adult dogs often require a more personalised approach, allowing us to focus on your dog’s individual needs and circumstances.

We recommend starting training in the comfort of your own home, where your dog feels safe and relaxed. This helps minimise stress and allows us to address behaviours in the environment where they naturally occur.

Older Puppy School – Adolescence

Puppy training for dogs aged 16–20 weeks

Have you recently welcomed an older puppy into your family? Perhaps your puppy needs a little extra training to develop good manners and everyday skills. Don’t worry – it’s never too late to start puppy training!

Our Older Puppy School helps puppies aged 16–20 weeks learn basic obedience, build confidence and develop appropriate socialisation skills. Our qualified trainers provide practical guidance to help you and your puppy get off to a great start.

Please Read: Combined Puppy Training Classes

Our standard Puppy School and Older Puppy School courses may run as combined group classes. This means puppies of different ages and developmental stages can attend the same training session.

There is no need to worry! Where required our qualified trainers adjust exercises, training expectations and guidance to suit each puppy’s age, experience and developmental stage.

Please remember that our Older Puppy School operates as a group training class, not a one-on-one or individual training service. All puppies follow the same core class curriculum, regardless of age. We do not offer a separate or specialised training program exclusively for older puppies.

Our group puppy classes suit puppies who feel comfortable around other dogs and need help developing:

  • Basic obedience skills
  • Good manners and polite behaviour
  • Confidence around other dogs
  • Everyday life skills
  • Positive socialisation experiences

To ensure a positive learning environment, we limit each class to a maximum of 6 dogs.

Older Puppy School Locations

We offer puppy training classes at the following veterinary clinics:

  • MustCare Vet Mt Gravatt (Wishart)
  • My Local Vet (Capalaba)
  • Raby Vet Surgery (Cleveland)

Important Puppy School Enrolment Requirements

You must provide your puppy’s current vaccination certificate at the start of the course. We cannot allow your puppy to attend without this certificate.

Please ensure you bring the required documentation to your first class.

Puppy Training Is an Ongoing Journey

One basic puppy training course covers only one developmental stage of your dog’s life.

To help your dog reach their full potential, develop reliable behaviours and build good lifelong habits, we recommend approximately 18 months of consistent training.

Ongoing training helps your dog develop a well-rounded skill set, strengthens your bond and creates harmony at both ends of the lead.

Continue your puppy’s learning journey by following our recommended training pathway below.

Does Your Puppy Need Extra Help?

Not every puppy feels comfortable in a group training environment.

If your dog displays signs of shyness, fear or reactivity around other dogs or people, private training may provide a more suitable starting point.

Please visit our Private Dog Training page to explore individual training options that address your dog’s specific needs.
