Assistance Dog Max earns his retirement

10 years ago, a black labradoodle puppy changed the life of a little girl.
Max and his mum, Christine, began their journey with trainer Dee, working towards the assistance dog program to assist her then 8-year-old non-verbal daughter.
The pathway took time, determination, with all its bumps in the road as Max settled into his new role at home, Puppy school, ongoing education, constant training and the support that was required to grow a young dog into what he became, a brilliant, calm, intuitive Max who soothed a child to sleep, stopped her tantrums with “tickles”, helped with therapy and became her constant companion.
It has been an honour to work with this team, to have such a lovely friendship and to watch a young girl grow into a lovely young lady.
Emotions ran high as the decision was made and the jacket came off.
Max, you have earned your retirement. It’s time for you now.
We thank you for your unwavering service 🐾
